The Access 303 wide is the boat of choice for any sailability group that is planning to have only one boat as it is the most versatile model in the range. The wide seat gives seating for two adults and the two sails give a positive role for both helm and crew. It is the ideal boat for a persons very first sail as they can be accompanied by an experienced sailor and they can start in the crewing role and be trained in the use of each element of control i.e. Jib only, Mainsail only, Helm only, then combinations until she/he is controlling the whole boat. They can also be trained in the basics of racing strategies and tactics. In an ideal club arrangement the sailor would then move into an Access 2.3 single seat dinghy for their first solo sailing and racing, which is a massive confidence builder.

The 303 Wide is also an Ideal trainer boat for sailors who want to develop towards Two sail single handed sailing in the Access 303 Single seat and the Access Liberty. The trainee sailor can be accompanied by an experienced sailor whilst they learn how to trim both sails and to develop their practical use of racing strategies and tactics.

The 303 wide can also be fitted with servo assisted mainsheet and helm. This is very useful for training and building the confidence of sailors with limited mobility as they can be accompanied on their first steps. This can be very reassuring as they learn both how to sail and how to use the servo controls. Ideally the sailor would then be progressed into a servo- assisted Access 2.3 Single, Access 303 Single or Access Liberty for the development of their solo sailing. The servo assisted 303 wide can be sailed solo by removing the jib, ( as the jib is not servo controlled). The boat remains very well balanced.
It cannot be overstated that for a person who has limited or no use of their limbs and few opportunities to do physical activities alone, to be able sail single handed and have an equal chance of racing success as everyone else is an incredibly empowering and liberating experience.

The Servo Assist System

Access Dinghies Servo Assist controls are generally used to allow people with mobility problems to enjoy the freedom and independence of sailing by themselves, sailing solo. Sailing is one activity where the use of powered equipment serves only to level the field and not give the sailor an advantage. Its use therefore encourages integration and allows previously disadvantaged people to participate, to compete, and to win against others more physically able

Access Dinghies are extremely easy to sail with servo assist and a severely disabled sailor can be very competitive against anyone. Unfortunately, however efficient servo assist equipment may be, sheet and helm winches will always be mechanical and without feel, and slower than an able bodied person working sheets and joystick manually. But without doubt, its better to be sailing without feel than not sailing at all.

The Access 2.3 system comprises helm winch and mainsheet winch, control box, sheet winch selector module, control device (typically a 4-way joystick) and batteries.
We mainly use the 4-way joystick for control which is the basic system, the simplest most reliable and easiest to use. there are a range of other specialist controls available on request.
The System can easily be converted for manual use by disengaging the steering winch clutch and, on the 2.3, by winding out all but a few inches of sheet and then hauling on it by hand.

A choice of 11 deck colours.
maroon, red, orange, yellow, lime, light blue, Mid blue, dark blue, lilac, pink, jade.

and 11 sail colours
maroon, red, orange, yellow, lime, light blue, dark blue, lilac, pink, jade, white.

This makes for easily distinguishable fleet sailing, which is very useful for safety monitoring and video/photo feedback. Or for your club or sponsors colours to be chosen

The Access 303 wide hard seats

The hard seat is an optional extra and comes in two sizes. It is designed to give more side support and to help prevent the sailor slipping down into the consol area. The seat is instantly removable by drawing 1 pin and untying two lashing cords.

There is a small hard "side seat" that can be fitted with the hammock seat still fitted which allows a child or small person to be in the hard seat and an adult or another child to accompany them
Important note: Fitting a large or small hard seat will make the 303 wide a single seater.
